STYLE TUNING SESSIONS
Case Study: Mrs. R
Mrs. R recently had a baby and found that her body changed after childbirth. She found that a majority of her clothing no longer fit quite right and she was not sure what styles would actually work for her new body shape. She also struggled to pull together outfits suitable for the workplace. She needed easy options that look great but did not cost her a lot of what she didn't have: money and time.
The Challenge:
1) Develop a wardrobe that allows Mrs. R to look stylish at work with minimal effort, care, and time. 2) Teach Mrs. R how to shop more effectively for her body type, post pregnancy. 3) Equip Mrs. R with the tools to create looks that reflect the image she wants to project as a new mom and young professional.
Needs Assessment:
1) Organize and edit closet so that all of the selected items actually fit well and are worn on a regular basis. 2) Identify cuts and fabrics that will flatter Mrs. R’s figure. 3) Identify key wardrobe elements that are missing. 4) Identify additional non-essential wardrobe pieces that can be purchased once key items are secured. 5) Show how to mix and match items to create different looks.
The Approach:
Mrs. R’s closet was full of prints and pieces that were difficult to coordinate or wear repeatedly because they were bold and memorable. After culling her closet, we realized that Mrs. R lacked basic building-block pieces. She also lacked basic tops and structured pieces that could be mixed and matched to create different looks; these are the types of items we focused on finding. We created a shopping list prioritized by need and budget. We identified each missing piece, the shape and cut that best suited her, color options, and quantities needed. We had her try on an array of items and explained in detail why a piece worked or did not work for her body type.
Outcomes:
An organized closet 2) An understanding of what clothing styles most flatter Mrs. R’s figure 3) The start of a timeless wardrobe that can be mixed and matched to create complete looks 4) A list of tips to remember when creating an outfit. 5) When shopping by herself, Mrs. R can readily identify styles that work for her on her own.
